Class im Biergarten

My German prose and poetry course took a field trip Thursday – not to a museum or an important historical sight like many classes, but rather, because it was my friend Troy’s birthday, we took a group outing to a Biergarten, nestled away in the Zoologischergarten.

The Zoologischergarten – the former hunting grounds for German royalty – is a beautiful natural preserve in the middle of a bustling metropolis. Much like Central park in New York, when you get into the middle of it, you almost forget you are in such an urban place.

The Biergarten is right along the water, featuring long white benches and two separate stations – one for beverages and one for food. We stayed for a couple of hours drinking our Bier and eating our oversized German pretzels, enjoying the respite both from busy city life, and from working away at German texts.
